A Letter to My Friends
A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.” -C.S. Lewis
My dear friend,
I may not know you personally. But I hope I can be this kind of friend to you regardless — one who can sing words of truth and encouragement when you’ve forgotten them. One who can remind you of the beauty that exists all around you, though you may not see it right now.
This world can be dark — full of pain and betrayal, abuse and neglect, oppression and hate. But there is always the opposite of those things if we look in the right places.
Sometimes they may only exist inside an ancient book full of words written thousands of years ago sitting beside your bed. Or in the early morning when you’re awake before the rest of the house. Or in a song that speaks directly to your soul and into your situation.
Other times, we can see light, truth, and clarity all around us — in the stars, the mountains, the breeze, the birds, and the flowers. You may find it in your loyal dog who never leaves your side. Maybe you feel it while journaling, running, painting, or making music.
My hope for you
My hope is that you can learn how to live in complete freedom in a world constantly trying to pin you down. My dream is for each of us to learn how to treat ourselves the way we would our most precious friend or a child we love — with mercy, compassion, and patience, quick to forgive and always eager to support and encourage.
I hope you can learn to love yourself so much that you dare to dream big and take chances, reminding yourself every single day how worthy you are and how sacred your purpose is. Your heart deserves protection. Your purpose deserves pursuit.
My dream is to see more people rise and live like they’re whole — instead of broken, deficient, and incomplete. Because, my darling friend, you’re simply irreplaceable. You’ve been uniquely designed for a specific reason, to do good and help others in a way only you can. You belong on this earth, and your place in this world is undeniable.
I hope you learn to engage in the adventure of life and discover the wild joy that can only be realized by becoming exactly who you’re meant to be.
You’re seen. You’re known. And you’re so very deeply loved.
Let’s discover the truth about our identities together. So we can engage in all the adventures this life has to offer us.
With radical hope,
